Spearheading Digital Advancements: A Closer Look at Millennium Partners’ USAID/BiH E-Governance Activity

Highlighting the year’s accomplishments is the impressive progress of the Millennium Partners implemented USAID/Bosnia and Herzegovina E-Governance Activity ($10.5 million, 5 year). Following a visit to Sarajevo in October, CEO Brian Hannon commended the E-Governance Activity’s advancement of digitalization:

“I was pleased to see our team in full command of this extremely challenging project making significant strides towards full implementation of e-signature and sophisticated e-governance systems, including e-construction permitting, e-centralized public procurement, and a whole new digitalized systems to speed the process of border inspections and internal inspections with e-Inspector. It was exciting to see this project showing real results and to realize how much impact it will have on the people and economy of Bosnia and Herzegovina.”

Persistence and Progress: Millennium Partners’ Impact in Moldova and Ethiopia Amidst Conflict

In March, Millennium Partners successfully concluded the US DoS Bureau of Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor (DRL) Moldova Access to Justice project (ATJ), in the wake of an economic, political, and humanitarian crisis largely triggered by the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Nevertheless, ATJ persisted, providing legal aid to a wide spectrum of Moldovan citizens, ranging from individuals with disabilities and those marginalized to refugee women and children from Ukraine. In August, Millennium Partners concluded the USAID/Ethiopia Feteh Justice Activity ($25 million), leaving a lasting impact on the nation’s justice system. The legal and judicial reform Activity, which spanned five years, worked tirelessly with the Ethiopian government, civil society leaders, and a host of local experts and scholars to bring about positive change in Ethiopia’s legal landscape, establishing itself as a model for future rule of law initiatives. The US DoS DRL grant for the Addressing Hate-based Crimes in Moldova Project (AHC), awarded in June, hosted its first training in December, focused on legal approaches to combatting hate-based crimes. This event served to enhance the capacity of AHC’s civil society partners to effectively prevent and combat these crimes and strengthen legal protections for victims. Through these efforts, the project actively promotes inclusion and fairness in Moldovan society by fostering a broader understanding of respecting the human rights of all.

The USAID Global Accountability Program (GAP) ($28.9 million, 5-year), awarded to Millennium Partners in September, is dedicated to enhancing partner country systems and capacity in preventing, detecting, investigating, and disrupting transnational corruption, grand corruption, and kleptocracy.

At the December Atlanta United Nations Conference of State Parties, the Millennium GAP/SNA Activity team hosted a dynamic launch event, engaging USAID representatives, consortium partners, and civil society organizations (CSOs) from around the world in electrifying discussions on country-level UNCAC implementation and the crucial roles of CSOs in driving anti-corruption reforms.

Millennium Partners’ Vision for 2024

Millennium Partners is gearing up for an exciting year marked by mobilizing our new DRL grant promoting human rights for all in Moldova, combatting corruption with the USAID GAP/SNA Activity, and advancing transparent and accountable governance in Bosnia and Herzegovina through the implementation of the USAID/BiH E-Governance Activity. We look forward to the year ahead as we build on our successes and strengthen our relationships with our partners around the world.

We eagerly anticipate participating in events that provide opportunities to connect with fellow donor project implementors and USAID representatives, much like the engaging experiences we had at the USAID Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization (OSDBU) networking event in June and the third Overseas Small Business Conference hosted by USAID OSDBU in Bangkok, Thailand, last November.
