The Millennium-implemented USAID E-Governance Activity, a project that is advancing digital services throughout Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH), has piloted its newly developed e-Construction Permits System. Lauded as a game-changer by USAID/BiH Mission Director Courtney Chubb, this new system will significantly reduce the time and cost for citizens and businesses to acquire a permit. A digital and timely e-construction permitting system will also mobilize more domestic and foreign investment. Through an online, easy-to-use system, citizens and businesses can apply, pay, and track the progress of their permit applications in real time.
With the e-Construction Permits System, the entire permitting process, from submission to approval, will be done electronically through the system. This means more efficiency and transparency. It means more construction projects that will create more jobs and economic growth. And, crucially, it means fewer opportunities for the irregularities and possible corruption that exist in the current paper-based administrative process. We’re also working with lawmakers at every level to modernize the laws needed to put this system into practice.

Thanks to legislative changes adopted by Una-Sana Canton, diligently supported by the USAID/BiH E-Governance Activity, obtaining construction permits in Una-Sana Canton is now twice as fast through electronic issuance. Below, we show the effects of the new e-Construction Permits System:

As Courtney Chubb stated in a post on the e-construction permitting partnerships kick-off event, “let’s celebrate the transformative power of digitalization in driving progress, economic development, and a brighter future for BiH!”
